About The Andy Warhol Museum In Pittsburgh

The Warhol Museum is the product of a powerful collaboration between Carnegie Institute, Dia Art Foundation and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. After plans to open in Pittsburgh were announced in 1989, it opened its doors during an enthusiastic 24-hour celebration on May 13th 1994. Formerly a 1911 distribution center that supplied materials to mills and mines, this space was beautifully renovated by architect Richard Gluckman with plenty of exhibition rooms as well as basement level containing both The Factory education studio and conservation lab!

His unique style focused on pop art, which featured images from mass media, like advertisements and news photographs. This style spoke to millions around the world, inspiring modern-day art movements such as minimalism and surrealism.

Warhol's most enduring qualities were his wit and irony; he once said “In the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.”

Warhol rejected traditional art forms by merging everyday objects with fine art in works like his Campbell's Soup Cans series.

The influence of Warhol is still prevalent today. His artwork has become highly sought after, fetching record prices at auction houses like Sotheby's. His innovative use of color and technique is still used in many artworks today, even inspiring fashion trends with his memorable prints seen on garments such as t-shirts and scarves.

Most importantly, Andy Warhol opened up a whole new realm of possibilities for artists everywhere. By rejecting traditional methods of creating artwork and embracing new ones, he showed us what could be achieved if we thought outside the box. Museum admission provides access to seven floors of art and archives, rotating exhibitions, free daily events, and more.

Members receive free admission. Show up on Good Fridays for half-price admission, Fridays from 5–10 p.m. Discounts will be applied during checkout.
