Yinz Coffee

I will keep this review quick like a perfect cup of coffee on the go. I stopped by the Yinz Coffee shop because I had to take a relative to Allegheny General for a medical procedure. Distraught at the thought of eating hospital food and hanging out in the hospital cafeteria, I grabbed my laptop bag and went for a walk along E. North Ave. 

I hit the E. North Ave. and Federal St. intersection no sooner than a few blocks around. Here you will find a nice variety of local eateries. It should be noted I had a hot dog around the corner and when I was finished, I wanted to log in and get some work done on my computer. So, I stepped into Yinz Coffee.

Part of a local chain, Yinz Coffee definitely has the right location and vibe for a hipster coffee shop that would appeal to many nearby professionals looking to step out for coffee and fire up their laptops. The service was fast and friendly. I only ordered a black house coffee but I would have to save it was excellent. 

The venue is airy, and extensive, and evokes the local neighborhood history. Old brickwork integrated into the decor feels genuine and connects the new with the old. This is also a nicely situated coffee shop easy to see and find and highly visible on the corner of a well-traveled block. 

No sooner than I sat down and logged in I got a call from Allegheny General that my relative had completed the procedure and would be back in their room in about an hour. That gave me time to people-watch, which is always fun at coffee shops.

Mostly, there were some working professionals that fired up their own laptops to get some work done. One younger lady, whose computer was festooned with stickers, clearly looked college-age. I saw a couple of mom and daughter combos and one older local guy who if you ask me, knew a lot bout the local history of the area, and might be retired. I think he read a paper and I got a sense that this was a daily routine for him. 

Yinz obviously pays homage to Pittsburgh slang and is great, if not obviously name for a coffee shop group based in Pittsburgh (there are other Yinz Coffee shops scattered about the City of Pittsburgh. Similar coffee shop vibes might include the Crazy Mocha shops and Common Place coffee. The pastries looked good but it would have been nice to see a greater variety of lunch selections.  

After my cup of coffee, I got a refill to go--and at no charge. Soon I was out in the hustle and bustle of Pittsburgh's great central North Side area and came away well caffeinated and had found a little place to park myself down to get some work down and have great coffee.
