The Bundys
The Bundys or the Al Bundy Award is a special section of City of Champions that celebrates the boy's varsity best high school performance in a football game and is giving out annually by the sports staff at Across Pittsburgh. This award is voted on by the esteemed The Al Bundy committee of Heisenburgh, Big Red, The Polish Prophet, and Hutch.
Who was Al Bundy? Al Bundy's best game is the 1966 city championship game between the fictional Polk High School Panthers and Andrew Johnson High, where Bundy scored four touchdowns, including the game-winning touchdown against his old enemy, Bubba "Spare Tire" Dixon, in the final seconds. The game ended 34-33.
In that spirit, we invite you to relive the glory days with stories of high school sports triumphs and legendary plays that continue to be celebrated in local lore, if only for your own amusement, inspiring the next generation of athletes that will one day tell the kids about those glory days and well, they never pass you by, not if you get a Bundy for the effort.
