Across McCandless Township, Pa. - There are growing concerns among the McCandless Township and nearby North Hills communities that a property owner in McCandless is displacing long-time businesses to pave the way for new housing and retail development. Local business owners, who have long been an integral and cherished part of the McCandless local shops community, are now expressing their deep-seated fear and apprehension as the land on which their establishments stand has recently undergone rezoning.

This sudden shift in zoning regulations has sent shockwaves through the local business landscape, raising concerns about the potential changes that may ensue in terms of not only the physical appearance of the neighborhood but also the overall economy. The uncertainty surrounding the future has left these business owners at a crossroads, navigating the delicate balance between preserving the unique character of the neighborhood and adapting to the evolving dynamics of the local business environment.

So, there's a bunch of businesses just outside of North Park, right? Well, guess what? They were totally caught off guard by this announcement and now they're all wondering what's gonna happen next. - North Park Area Business Owner

Allow me to share the fascinating story of the Yingling family, who have been running their bait and bike shop just outside North Park for generations. Since the 1930s, when the park was being built, they embarked on this entrepreneurial journey to provide North Park goers with the basics of bait, tackle, and bikes. With a rich history deeply intertwined with the development of the park, their business has become a cherished family tradition that has stood the test of time. From supplying bait to avid anglers to providing bikes for adventurous explorers, the Yingling family continues to serve their local community with passion and dedication, making their shop an iconic landmark in the area.

KDKA-TV, a local news station, reached out to Mike Irwin, co-owner of the property, to gather more information. According to Irwin, the area in McCandless has recently undergone rezoning, indicating potential changes in its development. McCandless authorities have provided Irwin with a list of interested developers, highlighting the possibility of future collaborations. Okay, great. However, what does that mean?

While there is currently no formal agreement regarding the sale of the property, it does not rule out the possibility of it being sold in the future and that is what has folks worried. Furthermore, extensive discussions have occurred between the property owners and the business owners in the area, ensuring that they will be promptly informed if any significant developments occur.

In a statement to KDKA-TV, McCandless confirmed that they've actually changed the zoning in that area. Now, it allows for a mix of residential and smaller commercial development. Surprisingly though, they haven't received any applications or serious inquiries about the property.
