Noodles took the family out to Chengdu Gourmet 2 for an early birthday lunch, and while the place was noticeably empty, it was early in the day, giving us a chance to soak in the bright, airy decor. The tables, each equipped with a built-in lazy Susan, were perfect for family-style dining—letting us spin around plates and share each dish easily.
The food was fantastic. We stuck to our go-to staples: the General Tso's was perfectly crispy with a deliciously tangy, slightly spicy sauce that hit all the right notes. The lo mein noodles were a savory delight, packed with fresh vegetables and a rich, well-seasoned sauce. The orange chicken had a nice balance of sweetness and zest, while the crab Rangoon was crispy on the outside with a creamy, flavorful filling. The fried egg rolls, served hot and golden, rounded out our meal with their satisfying crunch.
The service at Chengdu Gourmet 2 was exceptional—friendly and attentive from the moment we walked in. Our server greeted us warmly, took time to answer questions about the menu, and even offered suggestions to make our meal feel more special. Throughout the meal, they checked in with genuine smiles, refilling drinks and helping us navigate the lazy Susan, which kept the experience easygoing and fun. The attentive service added a welcoming touch to our lunch, making the birthday celebration feel even more memorable.
One thing that doesn’t quite work in Chengdu Gourmet 2’s favor is the location. Tucked away in a strip shopping plaza along McKnight Road, it’s easy to miss as commuters speed by to destinations further north. While the food and service make it worth the stop, it could be overlooked by diners unfamiliar with the area. That said, once you know where to find it, this hidden gem becomes a go-to for authentic Sichuan cuisine in the North Hills.
Overall, Chengdu Gourmet 2 delivered on every front, from the atmosphere to the exceptional food quality—making it a birthday lunch to remember!
