Chengdu Gourmet 2 is an Chinese style cuisine restaurant located along McKnight Rd. in the North Hills of Pittsburgh.

Chengdu Gourmet 2, located on McKnight Road in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, has quickly become a favorite for lovers of authentic Sichuan cuisine.

This spot is known for delivering bold, traditional flavors with a menu crafted by James Beard-nominated chef Wei Zhu, offering dishes that balance spice, umami, and the famous Sichuan peppercorn's numbing heat. Here, you’ll find specialties like Chongqing chicken, Mapo Tofu, and tea-smoked duck—each dish beautifully showcases the complex flavors of Sichuan cooking.

Diners are encouraged to bring friends and family, as the large portions are perfect for sharing in true family-style dining, which is the best way to experience their expansive menu.

The menu at Chengdu Gourmet 2 also features two options: a traditional American-Chinese menu and a Sichuan menu filled with authentic regional favorites.

Regulars often suggest diving straight into the Sichuan dishes for the full experience. The McKnight Road location is a spacious, comfortable spot ideal for both casual meals and culinary adventures, making it a convenient North Hills gem for authentic Chinese flavors.

For those new to Sichuan cuisine, the restaurant offers photos of each dish to help with menu navigation. The vibrant flavors and unique ingredients, from cumin lamb to Dan Dan noodles, make Chengdu Gourmet 2 a must-try for anyone in Pittsburgh.

Noodles took the family out to Chengdu Gourmet 2 for an early birthday lunch, and while the place was noticeably empty, it was early in the day, giving us a chance to soak in the bright, airy decor. The tables, each equipped with a built-in lazy Susan, were perfect for family-style dining—letting us spin around plates and share each dish easily.

The food was fantastic. We stuck to our go-to staples: the General Tso's was perfectly crispy with a deliciously tangy, slightly spicy sauce that hit all the right notes. The lo mein noodles were a savory delight, packed with fresh vegetables and a rich, well-seasoned sauce. The orange chicken had a nice balance of sweetness and zest, while the crab Rangoon was crispy on the outside with a creamy, flavorful filling. The fried egg rolls, served hot and golden, rounded out our meal with their satisfying crunch.

The service at Chengdu Gourmet 2 was exceptional—friendly and attentive from the moment we walked in. Our server greeted us warmly, took time to answer questions about the menu, and even offered suggestions to make our meal feel more special. Throughout the meal, they checked in with genuine smiles, refilling drinks and helping us navigate the lazy Susan, which kept the experience easygoing and fun. The attentive service added a welcoming touch to our lunch, making the birthday celebration feel even more memorable.

One thing that doesn’t quite work in Chengdu Gourmet 2’s favor is the location. Tucked away in a strip shopping plaza along McKnight Road, it’s easy to miss as commuters speed by to destinations further north. While the food and service make it worth the stop, it could be overlooked by diners unfamiliar with the area. That said, once you know where to find it, this hidden gem becomes a go-to for authentic Sichuan cuisine in the North Hills.

Overall, Chengdu Gourmet 2 delivered on every front, from the atmosphere to the exceptional food quality—making it a birthday lunch to remember!
