MCCANDLESS TOWNSHIP - Port Authority is poised to begin a nine-month project to upgrade and expand a park-and-ride lot in McCandless, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Sunday.

Eric Bilsky, the authority’s director of capital programs, told the authority’s Performance Oversight and Monitoring Committee last week that the project would increase the capacity of the lot at the former Rave movie theater complex from 350 to 400 spaces, the Post-Gazette reported.

The committee recommended awarding a $3.3 million contract to Murin & Murn Inc. of Glassport for the project. The full board will vote on Friday.

According to the Post-Gazette, the project would go far beyond adding parking spaces. Additionally, the story pointed out that changes will include replacing the existing shelter, installing new sidewalks, improving handicapped access, and repaving and painting parking areas.
