Chubby Checker, originally named Ernest Evans (born on October 3, 1941), is an acclaimed American singer-songwriter credited with popularizing the dance craze known as the Twist. His rendition of Hank Ballard's R&B classic "The Twist" in 1960 propelled this dance style to fame. Notably, in September 2008, "The Twist" claimed the top spot on Billboard's ranking of the most beloved singles to grace the Hot 100 chart since its inception in 1958.
Checker once recorded a unique single for Clark wherein he played the role of a school teacher managing a rowdy classroom of musical talents. This creative concept allowed Checker to showcase his versatility by mimicking the styles of renowned artists like Fats Domino, Frankie Avalon, and The Chipmunks, all performing "Mary Had a Little Lamb". Upon sharing this song as a Christmas greeting, the overwhelmingly positive feedback prompted Cameo-Parkway to offer Checker a recording deal. His debut release, "The Class", entered the charts at #38 during the spring of 1959.
