I stopped down for a quick bite after a trip to the doctor's office for my son's routine checkup. He had wanted to go to Chipotle on the way home, but I had been meaning to get to Toluca Mexcian Grill for some time since it opened. I convinced him that if he watched me eat at Toluca's, I would get him whatever he wanted later on the way home (It was my plan that he would give in when he saw my food. It worked).
No sooner than when we arrived, the pleasant Mexican cuisine aroma was enough to make our mouths water. I order the steak burrito and he had the beef tacos. We shared a side of chips and guac while I also added on a side of chicken tortilla soup. The food was quick and fresh and I like how they have a sign that says this is not a fast-food joint. So, what you order, is made on the grill for you.
The chips tasted homemade and were warm and crisp. The salsa and guac were satisfactory. The steak burrito was just the right size and contained a fresh blend of seasoned steak, fajita vegetables, and rice and hit the spot. My son made quick work out of his beef tacos and he said they were excellent.
If there is one minor complaint it is just that. The location is a bit on a fast stretch of Ohio River Blvd. so be careful turning into the lot and pulling out into traffic. There is outdoor seating too but I think the fast traffic so close by might make that less than an ideal alfresco spot for tacos.
Still, our food was great. This is a family-run, locally-owned Mexican cuisine restaurant that knows how to serve up great fresh Mexican and it was exactly what the doctor ordered, well, what I ordered, after my son's checkup. I highly recommend this place and we will certainly be back. Now as for Chipotle, he said we could save that for another time. Smart kid.
